Menino's Patriots Wager: Paul Revere Statue In A Tebow Jersey?
BOSTON (CBS) - Mayor Menino wants to make it clear that the Patriots fans are not post-season posers.
He refused to include 'Tebowing' in his bet with Denver's mayor over the Pats-Broncos game Saturday night.
Menino spoke with Denver Mayor Michael Hancock Thursday afternoon.
Menino said if the Patriots win, Hancock will wear a Tom Brady #12 jersey and will treat Mayor Menino to a Colorado steak dinner.
But if the Broncos win on Saturday, the North End statue of one of Boston's most famous patriots, Paul Revere, will don a Tim Tebow jersey for an entire day.
Mayor Menino will also throw in a lobster dinner for Mayor Hancock.
"The Patriots have all the tools an NFL team needs to go all the way," Mayor Menino said. "I am confident in our team, and if the Patriots prevail, I will send Mayor Hancock a brand new Tom Brady jersey for his next public event, while I enjoy a fine steak dinner, his treat."
Mayor Menino has an impressive record in these wagers, as all four of Boston's major sports teams have won championships in the past decade.
Earlier in the day, Menino shot down the idea that he would make the same wager that Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl made with Hancock.
Ravenstahl was forced to "Tebow" after the Steelers lost to the Broncos.
"He wants me to do the Tebow impression. I do that every Sunday in church," said Menino.
It also wasn't the first time Mayor Menino has turned down an opposing Mayor's initial offer.
Last year during the Bruins' playoff run, the Boston Mayor shot down a proposal by Tampa's mayor for the losing mayor to wear a tie with the winning team's colors.
At the time, Menino called the Tampa bet "cheesy," saying "I wanted something good."
