Memorial Service Set For D.J. Henry
BOSTON (AP) - The family of a college football player who was fatally shot by police in New York has scheduled a public memorial service.
The family announced through a spokeswoman yesterday that the service, called a "celebration of life," would be held October 29 - on what would have been Henry's 21st birthday - at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. The family had been seeking a large venue for the event.
The Easton, Mass., resident and Pace University football player was shot in his car early Sunday by officers responding to a disturbance at a bar in Thornwood, N.Y.
Police have said that Henry sped away and hit two white officers with his car. A lawyer for the family has questioned that account.
