Memorial Dedicated To 'Forgotten Firemen' Killed In 1942 East Boston Luongo Fire
EAST BOSTON (CBS) - Bagpipes echoed through Maverick Square Thursday at the conclusion of a ceremony dedicating a memorial to six Boston firefighters who died 70 years ago.
They were killed in the Luongo Restaurant fire on Nov. 15, 1942.
The fire and those men were all but forgotten when, 13 days later, the Coconut Grove fire broke out and killed nearly 500 people.
Forty-three people were injured in the Luongo Restaurant fire.

Ellen Curran's uncle Dan McGuire was killed in the fire. On Thursday, she stood at the memorial.
"I think it's a wonderful tribute to all six of the men and the whole fire department," Curran said. "They were the forgotten firemen."
