Mega Millions Jackpot Now $500 Million
BOSTON (CBS) - The Mega Millions jackpot is now at $500 million for Friday's drawing, a new record.
That's right - a half-a-billion dollars.
The jackpot jumped to $476 million overnight after no one won Tuesday night's drawing.
Those numbers were:
9, 19, 34, 44, 51 and the Mega Ball 24.
That jackpot was $363 million, which means the total prize has increased $137 million in about 12 hours.
The cash option is now up to a record $359 million.
Here's how the current prize would break down for a Massachusetts resident:
Annuity: $500,000,000
26 payments: $19,230,769
Fed Tax (25%): - $4,807,692
MA Tax (5%): - $961,538
=====================
Yearly Payout: $13,461,539
After 26 years: $350,000,014
If you took the $359 million cash option:
Fed Tax (25%): - $89,750,000
MA Tax (5%): - $17,950,000
=====================
Total: $251,300,000
Also, keep in mind, if you live in New Hampshire, where there is no state tax, you would take in about an extra $25 million total under the 26 year payment plan or nearly $18 million extra with the cash option.
