Medway Mom Excused From Bulger Jury Duty Calls Him "Unimpressive"
BOSTON (CBS) - Marcia Pereira says it feels good to finally be able to talk about her brush with the Whitey Bulger trial. She was among more than 850 potential jurors called to possibly sit on the trial that's expected to last all summer and possibly into the fall.
"I panicked thinking of money lost and children getting to camp," she says. "How do you deal with that?"
That may be why the Medway mom and property manager was excused. She never did get a reason, but she says she's relieved.
"If it was going to be a month, I would gladly have served. I think it would have been amazing. To give up that much time is just too much to ask," says Pereira.
She did get to meet the notorious South Boston crime boss, who was introduced after the judge's initial instructions.
"He doesn't look scary, just an old guy," she says. "I think I was expecting a larger than life character, someone who's 10 feet tall…and he was just some guy, some guy you could be sitting next to in a coffee shop, very unimpressive."
