Medford Man Sent To Maine Prison On Drug Conviction
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A Massachusetts man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for his involvement in a drug ring that distributed cocaine and heroin to Maine drug buyers.
William Mejia-Cruz of Medford was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court in Portland. He pleaded guilty last August to conspiracy to distribute cocaine and heroin.
The U.S. attorney's office says Mejia-Cruz was the leader of a drug-trafficking operation and sent couriers to meet with drug buyers at locations in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. At sentencing, he was held responsible for distributing nearly nine pounds of cocaine and more than four pounds of heroin.
Prosecutors say the investigation led to the conviction of 26 defendants on drug trafficking and money laundering charges.
