No More M&M McFlurries? Mars May Remove Candy From Sugary Desserts
NEW YORK (CBS) – A few years ago, Mars stopped making king-sized candy bars. Now it may be looking to take M&Ms out of your McFlurry.
As consumers try to cut down on sugar, Reuters reports that Mars is talking with McDonald's and other industry partners about removing its candy from popular dessert treats. Another option being considered is a recipe change, according to Reuters.
A serving of M&Ms contains 7.5 teaspoons of sugar per serving – a third as much as a large McFlurry, Reuters notes.
The candy maker is also worried about other fast food items like Burger King's Snickers pie and Dairy Queen's Blizzard that include its products.
In recent years, Mars has started stressing that some of its snacks are "not meant for everyday consumption."
