McAdam With Gresh & Zo: Will The Yankees Plunk Ortiz?
The New York Yankees never got a chance to retaliate for Ryan Dempster plunking Alex Rodriguez at Fenway Park last month, so with the Red Sox in the Bronx for a four-game series over the weekend, we may just see some more fireworks from the two teams.
But CSNNE's Sean McAdam joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Gresh & Zolak on Thursday, and said with the race for the AL Wild Care so close chances are we won't see any extracurricular activity this weekend in New York.
"I think that's certainly going to be a talking point here. On the one hand, perhaps the Yankees don't want [to stir up the Red Sox] at a time when every win is critical for their playoff push. Then, there is the fact it was A-Rod. Do the Yankees pitchers and Yankees players in general have that same 'hey he's our guy, we have to stick up to them' for Rodriguez that they would for a Curtis Granderson or Derek Jeter or Robinson Cano. I'm thinking probably not."
"As a general rule of thumb with these things, it seems like the more you anticipate payback the fewer times you get it," said McAdam. "The more it gets talked about, it becomes less and less likely that it is to happen. Four games is a long time, but let's not forget this is not the last meeting between these two."
Ortiz collected his 2,000th career hit on Wednesday night against the Tigers; will this help his Hall of Fame chances? And McAdam also talks about the comeback of Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz:
