McAdam On Toucher & Rich: Revisiting The Lester-Will Myers Trade Rumors
The Kansas City Star reported last November that the Red Sox and Kansas City Royals discussed the possibility of a trade involving Wil Myers for Jon Lester.
There's no telling how far the talks got, but this does tell us that the topic was on the table. The Royals ended up dealing Myers to the Rays last December as part of a seven-player deal for pitchers James Shields and Wade Davis.
Looking back and considering how Lester has pitched since then, if you could go back in time do you make the Lester for Myers deal?
"Given how this year has played out with Lester being inconsistent, I think you have to if not do it, at least give it a lot more thought then you did in the offseason," Red Sox insider Sean McAdam told 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich.
Myers is hitting .335 with eight home runs and 31 RBIs in 156 at bats.
"I think ordinarily you would not give up a top of the rotation or front of the rotation starter for a young prospect no matter how good he was suppose to be, but now I think you have to start asking is Lester still in that category? Based on the last year and a half it's tough to say he is."
The guys then wonder if the Sox even bother picking up Lester's $13 million team option for the 2014 season.
