MBTA Warns Riders To Expect Limited Service

BOSTON (CBS) - Another frustrating commute for riders on the MBTA and already a warning that commuters should expect the same service on Wednesday. "Five or six buses pass by, many people are waiting here and not getting anything," said Tukash Mukhophya, waiting for a shuttle bus at Kenmore Square.

Buses come, but they're packed and leave weary commuters behind. "There's not direction, there's no way to get home, it's crazy," said Liz Ullman who just missed getting on a bus at Kenmore Square as the door closed in front of her. "I've been waiting for an hour now and about eight buses have passed me by," said commuter Jocelyn Stowell.

There are no trains on many lines and MBTA General Manager Beverly Scott told reporters during a conference call, "It is our intention to restore service as soon as possible."

On Monday, Scott indicated it could be as long as thirty days before full service is restored. On Tuesday Governor Charlie Baker didn't seem like he was fully on board with the MBTA. "Beverly Scott said thirty days, we're viewing that as sort of an outer limit."

The governor dodged questions about long-term plans regarding MBTA funding and operations, saying the focus should be on what could be done now to clear snow and improve service.

With service now effected on the Commuter Rail, Baker said he wants to meet with Keolis in the next few days, the company that runs the service for the MBTA. "I'm really looking forward to having the folks from Keolis in for a chat. I'm certainly not satisfied with their performance," he said.
