MBTA Officer Thwarts Dunkin' Donuts Robber
BOSTON (CBS) - An MBTA officer stopped a would-be robber in the act as he tried to hold up a coffee shop with a spoon.
Around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, police say Michael Wallace, 35, of Boston went into Dunkin' Donuts in Charlestown and pointed a long, metal object at the female cashier and demanded cash.
The employee shut the cash drawer and walked away from the cash register to put distance between herself and the robber. According to police, Wallace reached over the counter and began trying to get the cash register drawer open.
As Wallace was trying to force the door open, a transit officer came into the shop.
The officer saw what was going on and arrested Wallace.
A search revealed the metal object was actually a seven-inch spoon. Wallace hid the rounded end with his palm during the robbery.
A search of Wallace also found a black dress sock which contained two women's bracelets and four necklaces.
Wallace is expected to be arraigned in Charlestown District Court on Monday on attempted armed robbery and assault by means of a dangerous weapon charges.
