MBTA Declines PETA's Request To Put Fake Snakes On Subway Cars
BOSTON (AP) — The MBTA says it might allow an animal rights group to advertise on its subway cars, but it won't allow it to hang fake snakes from ceilings and handrails because that might interfere with rider safety.
PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) asked the MBTA for permission to put fake rubber snakes on the T for a week for a campaign against the slaughter of reptiles to make handbags, shoes and other items.
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority announced Monday that it has referred PETA to its advertising contractor for rates.
But the MBTA also notified PETA that in the interest of customer safety and comfort, the MBTA does not permit advertisers to hang objects in subway cars.
