8 Hurt After MBTA Bus Crashes Into Guardrail Over Mass. Pike In Newton
NEWTON (CBS) --- Eight people were hurt when an MBTA bus crashed through a guardrail over the Massachusetts Turnpike near the Crowne Plaza in Newton.
It happened Sunday around 7:30 a.m. and involved the Route 57 bus. Ten passengers were onboard at the time of the crash.
MBTA spokesperson Kelly Smith said five people were taken to St. Elizabeth's, three were taken to Newton-Wellesley Hospital. One of those patients was the driver of the bus. All injuries are said to be non-life-threatening.

T officials said the bus was not in danger of falling. Transit police Lt. Detective Mark Gillespie said the guardrail kept the bus from moving any further.
The bus was removed using a crane and large tow truck, Sunday afternoon but not before traffic was backed up significantly. Washington Street and one lane of the Pike were closed due to concerns about debris falling on cars below.
Washington Street reopened later Sunday afternoon when repairs to the guardrail were completed.
There's no word on what caused the crash. Police would not identify the 55-year-old driver but said she had been working for the MBTA since 1996.
The Middlesex District Attorney's office is investigating.
