Boston's Assistant Director of Recreation Hector Alvarez said, "They love the sport and because the USA has advanced, it brings a lot of attention to the sport."
Mayor Walsh says the city will host another viewing party at City Hall Plaza on Tuesday when the U.S. plays Belgium in the next round.
"It's important to give the people of Boston the chance to come to City Hall Plaza and be part of the excitement. The tournament is in Brazil, so you get a little flair of our own tournament here in the U.S. And it's important to the players too, because they know there are rallies around the country."
Players from the New England Revolution were also at today's tournament.
