Mattapan Teen Charged With Setting Fire To Door Of Roller-Skating Rink

BOSTON (CBS) -- A Mattapan teen is charged with setting fire to the door of a roller-skating rink after employees refused to let her in the building.

Boston Police say Saturday night, the 14-year-old and her friend tried to enter Chez-Vous Roller-Skating Rink in Dorchester but were turned away due to a 30-day order to stay away from the business because of a previous fight with patrons.

Around 10 p.m., police say video surveillance shows the teen pushing burning papers up against the door.

Police found the teen a short distance away.

Around 120 people were inside the rink when the fire began.

No one was injured and the fire was quickly put out by employees with a fire extinguisher. Damage is estimated at about $3,000, according to police.

Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley said the girl was arraigned Monday in Dorchester District Court and was released to her grandmother. She must abide by a 5 p.m. curfew, go to school and stay away from the roller rink and its employees.

The teen is due back in court on May 29.
