United Offers Sneak Peek At Logan's Terminal B Renovations
BOSTON (CBS) – The next time you go to Logan Airport, you may see something new.
Massport and United Airlines are putting the finishing touches on a brand new terminal.
Amid the construction it does not look like an airport terminal but when it is done you are supposed to feel at home.
"Passengers right now don't want anymore the industrial look of a processing facility of a terminal," said Massport's Sam Sleiman. "They want a memorable experience."
United Airlines and Massport teamed up on the $160 million project. WBZ-TV got an inside look before the opening in two months.
A big focus of the project is keeping travelers connected. At every seat you'll find a plug for electronics.
Comfort was also an important factor in creating the new terminal.
"This is all about ambiance and making sure that our terminal design is different than anything you see at Logan," Sleiman said.
While the construction may disguise the final look of the terminal, even the ceiling area over the waiting areas gives an idea of what to expect at Terminal B.
"Everything is just a range of colors, even the seats that you sit on are all different colors, different fabrics," Sleiman said. "It's just like you're home."
United Airlines is consolidating its Boston operation into the upgraded 97,000-square-foot Terminal B. The airline hopes the new feel gives it an edge in the competitive air travel market.
Massport wants the terminal experience to give travelers a reason to choose Logan over other destinations.
United now flies out of two terminals at Logan. Starting April 30, all United flights will depart from the updated Terminal B.
