Massachusetts Veterans, Families Honored At State House
BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts is pausing with the rest of the nation on Veterans Day to honor its military service members past and present.
During a ceremony at the Statehouse, a candle was lit in honor of Americans missing in action and held prisoner of war, the French Legion of Honor Medal was given to two World War II veterans and rose bouquets were presented to Gold Star families.
Gov. Deval Patrick said Veterans Day was a chance to express support and gratitude to those who served.
The ceremony on Monday included a tribute to veterans of the first Gulf War in 1990 and 1991.
Secretary of Veterans Affairs Coleman Nee, who served in that war, read the names of the nine Massachusetts servicemen who died in the conflict known as Operation Desert Storm.
