Massachusetts Announces New Black Bear Hunting Season
BOSTON (CBS) – Massachusetts black bear hunters will have another two weeks in the woods late this fall as a new stretch of hunting season was announced.
The Department of Fish and Game announced that shotgun bear season, new for 2015, will run from Nov. 30 to Dec. 12, the same time frame as shotgun deer season.
Participants can only hunt bears during the two-week period using one shotgun not larger than a 10-gauge weapon. Two muzzle-loading guns fired from the shoulder can also be used, .44 to .775 caliber, or a bow and arrow.
All deer regulations apply during black bear hunting season.
Hunters must wear 500 square inches of orange on their chest, back and head. No rifles or handguns can be used while shooting bear.
To participate, hunters must sign up for a $5 permit with a limit of one bear per year.
More information on the new hunting season can be found on the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game's website.
