Mass. Governor Still Seeking Info On Vetting Process For Syrian Refugees
BOSTON (CBS) -- Gov. Charlie Baker says he is still trying to get more information from the Obama administration about the vetting process for allowing Syrian refugees into the United States.
Last week, Baker said he was "not interested in accepting refugees from Syria" because he was afraid security measures were not adequate to keep terrorists out of the country.
Baker told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Sunday that his goal is not to keep refugees out of the state.
"Massachusetts has a long and storied history as an engaged and active participant in refugee resettlement. I believe in that and I support it," Baker said.
Several governors have told the president they will not accept Syrian refugees in their state in the wake of the Paris attacks.
Baker says he hopes to have "a productive and serious debate about some of the issues that people have raised on both sides about the vetting process."
