Mass. Pilot, NH Woman Killed In SC Small Plane Crash
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a pilot from Massachusetts and a New Hampshire woman on the ground died when a small plane crashed at an RV park in North Myrtle Beach.
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen says the pilot was trying to land the single-engine Cessna at a local airport Tuesday afternoon when he missed the runway and crashed into a recreational vehicle park about a half-mile away.
The pilot was identified as 62-year-old Kenneth Thode of Plymouth, Mass. The woman in the recreational vehicle was identified as 70-year-old Eva Sullivan of Sunapee, N.H.
Thode was alone in the plane. Todd Gunther of the NTSB says investigators haven't found anything wrong with the plane's structure or control system.
North Myrtle Beach spokesman Pat Dowling says Thode was practicing takeoffs and landings.
