Suspect Arrested After Mass Pike Police Chase
BRIMFIELD (CBS) – A domestic violence call led to a police chase on the Mass. Pike Thursday afternoon.
The driver was arrested on the westbound side of the road in Brimfield, about 25 miles from where it began.
Witnesses say the chase started outside a Worcester bakery when there was an altercation between a man and a woman. The suspect allegedly tried to get his ex-girlfriend into his car before police arrived.
The responding officer was dragged as he tried to stop the suspect's car from fleeing.
"The officer struggled with him to get the key out of the ignition," said the witness, who asked not to be identified. "The suspect's car was in reverse. He must have pushed the pedal all the way down, reversed into the officer's car, went up over the curb onto the street."
The suspect fled onto the Mass. Pike. Stop sticks deployed by the State Police punctured three of his four tires. He traveled nine more miles before he lost control and crashed into the median.
The suspect, who was not identified due to domestic violence laws, faces several charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license.
The suspect also had five outstanding arrested warrants.
He will be arraigned in Worcester District Court on Friday.
