Retired Kingston Police Chief Killed In Vermont Motorcyle Crash
WOODBURY, Vt. (CBS/AP) – One retired Massachusetts police chief was killed and another critically injured Sunday morning when they were hit head on by a car while on motorcycles in Vermont.
Joseph Rebello, 55, of Kingston, Mass., a retired Kingston police chief, was struck and killed when a car crossed the center line of Route 14 in Woodbury, Vt., just after 9 a.m., Vermont state police said.
Rebello had retired just last year.
Rebello's friend, Richard Braga, 52, also of Kingston, and a retired Hudson, Mass., police chief, was also struck while on his motorcycle and is in critical condition at Fletcher Allen Health Care center.
State police said that the two Kingston men were riding with two other motorcyclists when they were hit by a car driven by Frank Sargent of Woodbury, Vt.
The 52-year-old Sargent is in fair condition at Fletcher Allen.
State police say the two other motorcyclists were able to avoid being struck by the car.
The accident is being investigated. No charges have been filed.
