Mass. Man Fighting Scottish Extradition In Poisoning Case
BOSTON - A college student from Princeton, Mass. facing attempted murder charges in Scotland is fighting extradition, according to a reports in the Boston Globe and a British newspaper.
Alexander Hilton, 21, was studying at the University of St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland in 2011 when the alleged incident reportedly took place.
Prosecutors say Hilton was involved in a drinking game in a dorm when he gave another student some wine laced with methanol, a potentially deadly type of alcohol used in gasoline and antifreeze.
The victim reportedly suffered severe nausea, headaches, and temporary blindness.
Officials say the victim, who is from Virginia, would have died if he didn't go to the hospital.
Hilton returned to the U.S. days after the alleged incident took place.
A defense attorney says Hilton has a history of severe mental illness.
