Mass. Lawmakers Face Busy Week Before Recess
BOSTON (AP) — It promises to be a busy week on Beacon Hill as the Legislature tries to finish work on several major bills before recessing until the end of the year.
Topping the list is a new congressional district map that needs final House and Senate approval. A legislative committee panel has approved the plan, which redraws districts to eliminate one of the state's 10 current U.S. House seats.
It's not clear if lawmakers will complete work on a casino gambling bill before recessing. Both branches have approved a measure calling for three resort-style casinos and one slots parlor in Massachusetts, but a conference committee is still working on details.
A sentencing reform bill and a measure making changes in the state's pension system also could see final action this week.
