Mass. Governor Candidates Turn Up Heat
BOSTON (AP) -- Gov. Deval Patrick and Republican challenger Charles Baker are trading jabs on taxes, jobs and health care as the race for governor heads into its final days.
At an event at Fenway Park, Baker blamed Patrick for the loss of more than 20,000 jobs in September and claimed Patrick had a plan to raise the state's income tax rate to 7 percent.
Baker offered nothing to backup the claim and Patrick's campaign charged him with "making up numbers."
Earlier in the day, Patrick attended the announcement of the expansion of a pharmaceutical company in Cambridge and faulted Baker for overseeing dramatic hikes in health care premiums while he was president of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.
Independent Timothy Cahill and Green-Rainbow candidate Jill Stein are also running. Election Day is Tuesday.
