Mass. Gov. Meets With Boston Mayor Elect
BOSTON (AP) — Gov. Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor-elect Martin Walsh are promising a strong partnership as Walsh prepares to take over at City Hall.
The two met privately in the governor's office for the first time since Walsh's victory in the Nov. 5 mayoral election to succeed Thomas Menino, who is retiring after more than two decades as Boston's mayor.
Patrick noted that he already has a "great friendship" with Walsh, who helped Patrick in his first campaign for governor in 2006 and his re-election effort in 2010.
While Patrick did not make an endorsement in the Boston mayor's race, Walsh said the governor did offer some advice during the campaign, including "keep your head down" and "don't read the papers."
The new mayor takes office in January.
