Mass. GOP Files Ethics Complaint Against Markey
BOSTON (AP) — The Massachusetts Republican Party has filed a complaint with the U.S. House Ethics Committee alleging Democratic Congressman Edward Markey violated ethics rules in television ads he's running to boost his U.S. Senate campaign.
Party Executive Director Nate Little says in the complaint that Markey used what he called prohibited video on the ads, including footage of committee hearings. Little also alleges Markey has coordinated activities between his campaign and congressional offices.
A Markey campaign spokeswoman said none of the images in the ads is prohibited and any images of committee hearings were already in the public domain.
The spokeswoman denied that Markey's congressional office has increased the number of press releases it has issued this year to help the campaign.
Markey is running against fellow Congressman Stephen Lynch in the Democratic primary.
