Mass. Gas Prices Up 17 Cents In One Week
BOSTON (CBS) – Gas prices in Massachusetts shot up 17 cents in just one week, according to the latest survey from AAA Southern New England.
The average price for a gallon of self-serve, regular unleaded is now $3.30 per gallon.
It's still six cents below the national average of $3.36. That's the highest recorded national average at this time of year ever.
So why the big jump?
"The oil markets do not like uncertainty, they don't like instability and we have had nothing but instability and uncertainty in the oil producing center of the globe, that being the Middle East and north Africa." AAA's Mary Maguire told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.

A year ago at this time, the Massachusetts average was $2.64.
The range in prices in this week's AAA survey is 35 cents, from a low of $3.14 to a high of $3.49.
Maguire recommends drivers shop around for the best deal.
"Get as close to that $3.14 number as you can," she said.
