Mass. Extends Key Health Care Deadlines
BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts is extending the deadlines for residents to select and pay for new health insurance plans offered through the state's health connector.
Officials say the original Monday deadline for choosing a plan has been moved back to Dec. 31. The coverage will take effect on Jan. 1, with temporary coverage provided to those who are already enrolled in subsidized plans but whose applications are not processed in time.
Deadlines to pay for premium coverage will also be extended. The connector says those enrolling in plans with no subsidies will have until Jan. 10 to make payments.
The state's first-in-the-nation health care law served as a model for the federal Affordable Care Act. The connector redesigned its website to comply with the new federal rules, but like the federal website it has experienced technical problems and delays.
