Mass. Candidates Discuss Health Care At AARP Forum
BOSTON (AP) - The Massachusetts candidates for governor agree the Obama administration's health care overhaul is not the solution to all the country's health insurance problems.
Addressing about 600 seniors at an AARP forum on Wednesday, both Republican Charles Baker and independent Timothy Cahill said they opposed the plan. Baker fears Medicare cuts. Cahill is afraid of rationing.
Baker wants to better disclose costs to drive them down. Cahill wants more competition in the state. Jill Stein of the Green-Rainbow Party favors a single-payer system.
Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick supports the administration program but wants more focus now on controlling costs.
The candidates were appearing at historic Faneuil Hall for a forum focused on senior issues. AARP is the nation's largest membership group for people aged 50 and over.
