Duxbury officers were called to a home on Deer Path Road around 10:30 p.m. by an off-duty officer who lives there.

He said he heard a knock on his door and when he opened it, he saw a man wearing a mask, armed with a gun, so he slammed the door shut.

The masked man ran off into the woods near Temple Street.

Police went after him and, at one point, they say, the man fired shots at them.  No one was hit.

The officers were then ordered to pull back and set up a perimeter.

State police, K-9 units and a SWAT team were then called in and part of Route 3 was shut down.

Just before 2 a.m. the man, later identified as Brett Roderick, was captured by state troopers in a swamp off Route 3.

He was taken to Duxbury police headquarters and, about an hour later, state police found a pistol holster in the swamp.

It's not clear if Roderick knew a police officer lived at the home where the incident began.

He is said to be from the South Shore and he is wanted for a similar incident in Oklahoma. A source told WBZ-TV's Bill Shields that Roderick and two friends broke into a home there and robbed a family at gunpoint.

Roderick will be arraigned in Plymouth District Court Tuesday afternoon.
