Standoff In Mashpee Ends Peacefully After 7 Hours
MASHPEE (CBS) – A seven-hour standoff in Mashpee ended peacefully Wednesday night.
Mashpee police were called to Audio Video Solutions, on Route 28 between Mashpee and Falmouth, for a well-being check. They found a despondent man inside the business who barricaded himself inside. He told police he was armed.
Officers evacuated the nearby businesses and block of a section of Route 28. The man told police he had an AR-15 and lots of ammunition. In the mid-afternoon, police said he did fire a bullet, but they do not believe it was at them.
Eventually crisis negotiators were able to get him to peacefully leave the building. He was taken to the hospital for a psychological evaluation.
Police are not identifying him until they file charges except to say he is 41-years old and from Falmouth.
As of late Wednesday night, officers were still determining what guns he had and why he barricaded himself inside the business.
