Police Investigating 'Horrific' Murder Of Marshfield Man Inside Home

MARSHFIELD (CBS) -- A murder investigation is underway after a man was found dead inside his Marshfield home in what investigators called a "horrific scene."

Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz said police received a 911 call Wednesday afternoon reporting the discovery at 190 Damons Point Road.

The victim has been identified as Robert McKenna, 43, who lived at the home. McKenna's body was found by a friend who had plans with the man but instead found what Cruz called a "horrific scene" at the home.

An autopsy was performed Thursday on McKenna's body. Cruz said the exact cause of death was not yet determined, but McKenna died from significant blood loss from his head and upper body.

Cruz said the death is not believed to be a random incident, and he suspects that more than one person was involved in targeting McKenna's home with the intent to rob it.

Residents in the upscale neighborhood said they were awakened early Wednesday morning, but at that point they didn't know why.

"In my sleep, at some point, I did hear crashing," one neighbor said.

Several neighbors said McKenna talked openly about being wealthy and had a strange backstory, complete with tales of big-game hunting in Africa, diamond-running and a house full of taxidermy.

"He had a lot of stuffed animals in his home and bragged about Africa," another neighbor said. "And then he talked about diamonds and being a diamond runner."

Other neighbors said they liked the man and that he would snowblow people's yards for them.

Police believe McKenna died between 3 and 4 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Anyone with information is asked to call Marshfield Police at (781) 834-6655 or Massachusetts State Police at (508) 923-4000.
