Investigators say it began when Marcello Almeida stabbed 24-year-old Patricia Frois to death in a domestic dispute at the Village apartment complex off Route 139 just around 7:15 a.m.
An investigation into the crime revealed that immigrations officials have no record of anyone by the name of Marcello Almeida (DOB June 12, 1970) having entered the country legally.
According to the Plymouth County District Attorney, "Records indicate that the visa number on the passport bearing Almeida's name and photo was issued to a Kuwaiti female in Beruit in 2003."
Authorities are still working to confirm the identity of the suspect.
Monday morning, an automated phone call went out from police warning nearby residents and businesses to be on the lookout for a "Hispanic male... approximately 40 years old... armed with a knife."
Heavily armed police searched the area, which is near the Pembroke line, on the ground and in the air.
Martinson Elementary School, Furnace Brook Middle School and Marshfield High School were all put on lockdown at 9 a.m. No one was allowed in or out of the schools.
The lockdown at the three schools was lifted around 11:45 a.m.
Around 11:30 a.m., state troopers and Marshfield police officers found Almeida behind a shed in a backyard.
"The suspect has injuries and is being transported to an area hospital under police guard," state police said in a statement.
Almeida was captured about a mile away from the murder scene.
There was a trail of blood leading away from the site of the attack. Almeida may have tried to take his own life after the alleged attack.
Police K-9's tracked the blood scent to the shed.
WBZ-TV's Bill Shields reports.
The victim's cousin told WBZ-TV's Bill Shields that Almeida and Frois had been in a long relationship that began back in Brazil.
Almeida and Frois had been together about ten years and had a 5-year-old son together.
