Several People Injured In Crash On I-290 East In Marlboro
MARLBORO (CBS) - Several people were injured during a violent crash on I-290 late Thursday morning.
A medical helicopter flew one person with life-threatening injuries to an area hospital. State Police shut down the eastbound side of I-290 after the crash.
Preliminary investigation shows that around 10 a.m. a 2010 Dodge Caliber was driving in traffic on I-290 East in the left lane near Exit 25. As the car slowed for traffic, a 2000 Jeep Cherokee slammed into the back of it.
Four people from inside the Dodge were rushed to UMass-Lakeside Hospital. Massachusetts State Police originally said a 19-year-old Brimfield woman died in the crash, but later updated that she was in critical condition.
The driver of the Jeep, a 25-year-old West Boylston man, was also hospitalized.
There were significant traffic backups on I-290 East shortly before noon.
