Fans waited outside a gas station on Main Street for him and it paid off. He posed for photos with them and stopped to talk to several people just after midnight.
He even gave the "peace" sign to WBZ-TV's photographer as he left in an SUV.
Wahlberg stars in the movie as Boston Police Sgt. Tommy Saunders, a composite character based on several people involved in the response to the bombings. John Goodman, Kevin Bacon and J.K. Simmons also play major characters in the movie.
"Patriots Day" is being produced by WBZ's sister company CBS Films. It is set for a Dec. 21 release in Boston, New York, and Los Angeles, before a wider release on Jan. 13, 2017.
