'Changes The Whole Landscape': Marijuana Home Delivery Approved In Massachusetts
BOSTON (CBS) - In a virtual meeting, the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission voted 3-1 to approve revised rules for the industry that now allows for home delivery of marijuana.
Monday's decision is huge for Jenny Roseman and Philip Smith who run Freshly Baked Company in Taunton. The two are not only partners but also disabled veterans who suffer from PTSD.
"Before today we really did not have a piece of the retail side of things. We are not a brick and mortar company we are a micro company. We do have manufacturing and cultivation and now we will have home delivery which makes us integrated," Philip Smith said.
The CCC approved two different license classes: marijuana couriers and marijuana delivery operators, which is the big break Freshly Baked has been waiting for. "It's just huge for anyone now to get a home delivery," Jenny said.
But not all retailers are happy with the regulations. Now the Commonwealth Dispensary Association plans to challenge the CCC's landmark decision.
David Torrisi, president of the Commonwealth Dispensary Association, said the system right now consists of cultivators, manufacturers and retailers. "To cut retailers out of the equation altogether is very disconcerting," Torrisi said.
He said the landmark decision puts a strain on retailers throughout the state. "It's an online retailer license," Torrisi said. "I don't consider that a delivery license. I think it changes the whole landscape of the cannabis industry."
For Philip and Jenny it's a huge opportunity to fulfill their dream. "It's a big win all around. It's fun to fulfill our promises to fellow veterans," Jenny said.
