Marathon Bombing Suspect Wants Prison Restrictions Lifted
BOSTON (AP) — Defense attorneys for Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev have asked a judge to lift what they call "extraordinary restrictions" on their client's ability to communicate.
In court filings Monday, Tsarnaev's lawyers say the limitations are "unconstitutionally restrictive and vague."
Prosecutors asked for the restrictions to limit Tsarnaev's communications because they believe he may try to send messages to supporters to inspire more violence.
His defense says there's no evidence he would try to inspire others and hey have had to clear materials they show him with prosecutors, which interferes with attorney-client privilege. They say a message he left in the boat where he was captured was not meant to inspire others.
Tsarnaev is in custody after pleading not guilty to charges stemming from the April 15 explosions that killed three.
