Mansfield Teen Killed By School Bus Honored With Blood Drive
MANSFIELD (CBS) - The American Red Cross held a blood drive Tuesday in Mansfield in memory of a 13-year-old boy who was killed in an accident last month.
Shane Farrell was riding his bike on East Street June 3 when he was hit by a school bus.
He was a seventh grade student at Qualters Middle School.
His father Brian and several friends and family were at the Holiday Inn on Hampshire Street for the blood drive, which ran for about five hours.
"It's just amazing," Brian told WBZ-TV.
"The town and people all around are to be commended for their hearts and their reaching out. It's just beyond anything you would expect."
"We know that Shane touched a lot of lives and one thing that was important to him was helping others," Farrell said in a statement issued before the event.
"We are hosting this blood drive in memory of Shane because we want to give back to the community and raise awareness about the need for blood."
