Students are returning to school for the first time since the death of 16-year-old Michaela Smith early Saturday morning in a car crash on Route 140 in Foxboro.
Smith was a junior at the high school and she played on the lacrosse and soccer teams.
Her parents told The Boston Globe she had spent the night at a friend's house and the two had gone to an all-night store to buy a sandwich. They were returning to the store after Michaela realized she left her wallet behind.
Police say speed may have been a factor in the crash.
Smith's friend was not seriously hurt.
Friends have put together a makeshift memorial of flowers and personal items at the accident site.
