Manny Agrees To One-Year Deal With A's
BOSTON (CBS) -- Manny Ramirez is back in baseball.
The right-handed slugger, who turns 40 in May, agreed to a one-year deal with the Oakland A's with a base salary of $500,000 at the major league level, according to CBSSports' Jon Heyman. The agreement is a minor league deal.
Ramirez will still have to serve a 50-game suspension that carries over from last year, when Ramirez tested positive for a banned substance. Because it was his second failed drug test, Ramirez faced a 100-game ban. Ramirez opted instead to retire, but before he decided to rejoin MLB, the punishment was dropped to 50 games.
Ramirez played in just five games for the Tampa Bay Rays last season, going 1-for-17 with one RBI. Ramirez's contract with the Rays was worth $2 million.
Ramirez was arrested in September after a domestic dispute in his Florida home.
