Mannix On Toucher & Rich: Garnett Leaning Towards Retirement?
Now that the Celtics are done for the season it's time to look ahead to next year. Both Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett are unrestricted free agents and could end up leaving town or the league all together.
Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich to discuss what the future might hold for Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, the relationship between Allen and Rajon Rondo and this past weekend's Pacquiao/Bradley fight.
The guys started thing off discussing Timothy Bradley defeating Manny Pacquiao in a controversial split decision last Saturday. Mannix was at the fight and had Pacquiao winning and thought that it was clear that Pacquiao won. Is this just another black mark on the sport of boxing?
The gang then moved on to the Celtics who hours before the fight started were eliminated in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals by the Miami Heat. Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett's contracts are up, but will they be returning as Celtics next year.
There have been some reports that say Allen and Rajon Rondo have not got along this season. Will this affect Allen's decision to return to Boston if they offer him a contract?
"What I've heard is that there has been some friction between Allen and Rondo. Now how much that will affect Ray offseason decision is unclear, but I know that there was...they did rub each other the wrong way over the course of this season and maybe that happens when you have two guys who are alpha male types."
What about KG, will he return if the Celtics offer him a contract? Would he come back if the number was low or will he just retire?
"I've said before that I think he's leaning toward retirement and I have not heard anything subsequently, since I wrote that a couple of weeks ago, that makes me think that he's not leaning toward retirement."
Mannix does think that if he were to play another season there's no question where he'd end up.
"I think if he decides to play again I think it's in Boston. I think it's a long shot to think that he plays somewhere else."
