Man Who Faked Way Into Harvard Ordered To Undergo Psych Evaluation
WOBURN (AP) — A Massachusetts judge has ordered a man who faked his way into Harvard University to undergo psychiatric evaluation before deciding his penalty for violating probation.
Adam Wheeler was sentenced last year to 2½ years in a county jail and 10 years' probation on fraud charges. He served one month in jail while awaiting trial and the remainder of the sentence was suspended. The judge found he violated probation by using Harvard on his resume.
On Thursday, Judge Diane Kottmyer ordered that Wheeler undergo a 40-day evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital. She said it appears his behavior stems in part from mental illness, and a psychiatric report will help her decide punishment.
Prosecutors say Wheeler should serve the rest of his sentence.
Kottmyer set a new hearing Dec. 23.
