Officers say a masked man walked up to the pharmacy counter inside the CVS at 155 Charles Street.
He handed a bag to one of the pharmacists along with a note that instructed the pharmacist to fill the bag with several medications.
The note also warned employees not to call police for two-and-a-half hours, saying someone would be watching the store.
The note warned of bombs in the pharmacy and at the library and said if police were not called, they would be deactivated.
The bomb squad was called in. They checked out the CVS and the library on Cambridge Street and found nothing.
The suspect took off from the store with prescription drugs
He's described as a heavy set white man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, a black mask and black jeans.
Boston police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
