Man Shot And Killed By Boston Police In Dorchester
BOSTON (CBS) -- A man was killed by police after he opened fire on officers early Sunday.
Police responded to Willowwood Street in Dorchester, where there were reports a man had a gun and was shooting.
When officers approached the man in his car, he fired at them, police said.
Police returned fire and the man was shot and killed. He was pronounced dead at Boston Medical Center.
The Suffolk County District Attorney's office and the Boston Police Department Internal Affairs Unit is investigating the incident.
In a prepared statement Sunday, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley pledged a full and impartial review of the police-involved shooting, which he called "a standard procedure."
"The community can count on a full and impartial investigation by our office," Conley said. "We recognize the importance of transparency in a case like this. As we have in prior investigations of police-involved shootings, community stakeholders and members of the media will have the opportunity to review our findings when the probe is complete."
