Man Arrested For Taunton Hit-And-Run Crash That Killed Skateboarder
TAUNTON (CBS) - Taunton police have made an arrest in connection with Thursday night's fatal hit-and-run crash.
Officers arrested 55-year-old Paul Baran early Sunday morning after questioning him at the police station. He is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a death.
Thursday's crash killed 17-year-old Nicholas Silva-Thomas, who was riding his skateboard along Bay Street on Thursday night at around 9:40 p.m. when he was hit. Silva-Thomas was pronounced dead a short time later at Morton Hospital.
WBZ-TV's Jim Smith reports.
Police said Baran allegedly turned off the car's headlights and left the scene, which is near the entrance to Watson Pond State Park.
Nick's friends showed up at the scene of the accident on Thursday night, carrying flowers.
"He was such a nice kid, always got along with everybody," said one classmate. "He was always smiling and goofing around," said another.
Baran will be arraigned Monday at Taunton District Court.
