Man Out On Bail Drives Into Car Inside Brighton Dealership Showroom
BOSTON (CBS) - A man out on bail for leading police on a chase last month was arrested Wednesday for crashing a brand-new car into another car inside the showroom at a dealership in Brighton.
Police arrested 39-year-old Ender Durgut of Brookline outisde the Herb Chambers of Boston Toyota/Scion dealership on Brighton Avenue Wednesday morning. He was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, malicious destruction of property, assault with a dangerous weapon, and disorderly conduct.
Durgut allegedly walked into the dealership at around 10:30 a.m. looking to buy a car to replace the one he had recently crashed.
After looking around at some of the vehicles, Durgut allegedly started a black Toyota Venza on the showroom floor and drove it into a nearby Toyota Prius and a desk before coming to rest against a wall. That Prius had a "sold" tag on it.
Witnesses said Durgut continued to rev the engine until an employee was able to shut the car off.
Police said Durgut then got out of the car and walked out of the dealership. He was arrested on Commonwealth Avenue a short time later.
At the time of his arrest, Durgut was on bail for a March 27 incident in which he allegedly led authorities on a chase in a different Toyota Venza. The chase ended in Newton when Durgut lost his front tire, struck a guardrail and a Brooklike police cruiser. His car came to rest on grass and caught fire.
As a result, authorities revoked his bail on that prior charge and set his current bail at $5,000.
Durgut will return to court on May 21.
