Man Arraigned In Alleged Carjacking With 7-Year-Old In Backseat
WORCESTER (CBS) -- A man is facing charges after allegedly stealing a car with a 7-year-old girl inside.
Prosecutors say 28-year-old Richard McBride, of Hardwick, attempted to steal a car parked on Main Street in Worcester Monday.
Oscar Perez was running into a nearby store for a quick purchase and left his daughter inside the car. When he was in the store, the vehicle was stolen.
"One minute I go outside quickly the guy was jumping in the car," Perez said. "When I try to handle the door he hit the gas and quickly go. I keep running."
A police officer nearby saw the incident and chased after the car.
It was all captured on surveillance video from a nearby business. The white SUV is stopped by police and Perez is able to catch up to it. He confronts the suspect and begins beating him while his little girl runs away into another nearby store.
"It's my daughter you know? I do everything I have to do with that," Perez said.
McBride has been charged with kidnapping, larceny, and driving with a suspended license. He is being held on $100,000 bail and is due back in court on Aug. 19.
