During a Delta flight from Salt Lake City to Boston, a first-class passenger noticed disturbing images on 47-year-old Grant Smith's computer screen, state police said.
The passenger immediately notified the flight crew, who called police. The passenger also contacted a relative and asked them to call police.
"The State Police would like to thank the alert airplane passenger whose observations of the defendant's despicable actions -- and that witness's decision to tell a flight attendant and a family member -- ultimately led to our being notified. The witness should be commended for standing up against a horrible crime," said Massachusetts State Police spokesperson Dave Procopio, in a press release.
Police requested to look at Smith's computer when the plane landed at Logan, and then found sufficient reason to arrest him. Bail was set at $15,000.
Smith is set to be arraigned on Monday.
