Man Accused Of Impersonating Priest; Writing Bogus Checks

BOSTON (CBS) -- Boston Police have arrested a Brookline man who is accused of impersonating a priest and depositing false checks into several different bank accounts.

According to police, Koffi Gbikpi, 45, opened several bank accounts across the state. It is alleged that Gbikpi would take starter checks and deposit them into the new accounts. Police said the accounts linked to the checks did not have any money in them.

On Monday, police said Gbikpi tried to open up three accounts at Boston Private Bank in Boston. He allegedly wrote three checks in the amount of $6,000, $2,000 and $10,000 from two other banks accounts that had no money.

This morning, Gbikpi went to the same bank and tried to take out a loan. Police were waiting at the bank for Gbikpi. He was arrested and charged with uttering and forgery.

Gbikpi has been ordered held on $50,000 cash bail. He is due back in court on January 14.
